A man posted his positive pregnancy test as a joke on the forum site Reddit. He had taken his ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy test for fun only to discover that he was apparently expecting. What he wasn’t expecting was the people on Reddit telling him to go see a doctor in case he had testicular cancer. So he went to the doctor and a couple of days later posted that he did indeed have cancer and that it was found early enough to have completely removed.
Pregnancy tests work by testing for increased levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone that is produced during pregnancy. Some cancers also produce this hormone, in fact there are very few things other than cancer or pregnancy that can produce hCG.
I’m not sure if there is a moral to this story, but if you’re curious as to wether or not you have testicular cancer, go to the drug store and grab a take home pregnancy test. Also, if you test positive on a pregnancy test and really don’t want to be pregnant, good news, it might only be cancer!
